At Strings for Hope, and here at FX Pedal Planet Online Store, we believe that something as simple as a used guitar or bass string can find a second life and help change lives too.

Since 2010, Strings for Hope has been operating out of Nashville as a survivor led organisation dedicated to creating meaningful jobs and opportunities for people who have experienced substance use disorder, domestic violence or human trafficking. Their focus is on providing a trauma informed workplace, ongoing training, dignified wages, and a stepping stone (or long term chance) to rebuild.

What Strings for Hope actually do is take second hand instrument strings, guitar and bass strings that might otherwise end up in landfill, and repurpose them into jewellery and accessories. In doing so they address two things at once: sustainability, by keeping metal out of the waste stream, and social impact, by offering employment and skill development to survivors. Their pieces reflect the spirit of Nashville: musical, creative, grounded, and connected to community.

Behind the organisation is a dedicated team of artisans and staff who come from the very communities that the programme is designed to support. Whether someone stays with the organisation long term or views it as a launchpad, the environment is designed to honour dignity, growth and opportunity. Strings for Hope list it clearly: economic opportunity can disrupt cycles of abuse and exploitation.

Recently Strings for Hope announced on social media that they had saved 300 pounds of instrument strings from landfill. The equivalent of roughly 4,800 strings, stretched out higher than Mount Everest, and the energy savings equivalent of charging 40,000 smartphones. This milestone underlines the dual benefit of what they do: giving materials a new purpose while helping people rebuild.

Each year, around Christmas time, we collect strings ourselves and forward them to Strings for Hope as part of our commitment.
