FX Pedal Planet Online Store is delighted to congratulate Olly of Tubesteader on the launch of the Gainlord, a high voltage dual channel overdrive and preamp pedal that captures the spirit of classic British hard rock tones. We are also pleased to announce that we will soon be stocking the Tubesteader Gainlord here in the UK.
Tubesteader is a boutique pedal maker known for bringing tube circuitry into compact formats, aiming to deliver authentic amp style tone in pedal form. Their designs are built around high voltage tube stages, offering dynamics, harmonic richness and organic feel in pedals that are practical for gigging, studio or home setups. Their existing range includes overdrives and preamps that favour rock, blues and heavy styles, always with attention to tone, responsiveness and ruggedness.
The Gainlord joins Tubesteader’s lineup as a flagship dual channel overdrive/preamp that draws inspiration from the iconic British amps of the late ’60s through the ’80s, the kind of amplifiers that shaped the sound of hard rock. It is designed for players who want the feel and character of vintage amp tone, but in a pedal format that can slot into modern rigs.
Under the hood, the Tubesteader Gainlord is built around true high voltage tube circuitry, giving it punch, warmth and touch sensitive response in a compact housing. It aims to deliver the same harmonic complexity and dynamic feel as full-size tube amplifiers.
The pedal offers two distinct channels:
Each channel includes a Bright switch that adds presence; on the high gain side it can also act as a subtle gain boost. For flexible routing, there’s a 3.5 mm TRS jack that allows remote control of channel switching and Bright on the high gain channel, handy for switching from your pedalboard or external footswitch.
Outputwise, the Tubesteader Gainlord delivers roughly 80% of standard line level, making it usable into power amps, cab simulators or front of an amp. A Tone Cut switch gives two modes: a full output preamp for use with power amps or cab sims, or a lower level overdrive mode tailored for front of amp use, with scooped high mids to sit nicely in the amp’s front end.
Power is handled flexibly: you can use the included AC/DC adapter or any suitable 12 V DC, 500 mA pedalboard supply. If your supply only gives less than 500 mA per output, Tubesteader suggests combining two outputs via a current-doubling cable (without exceeding 12 V DC). The Gainlord is safe to use in front of an amp, into a power amp, or with a cab simulator, making it adaptable to many rig setups.
FX Pedal Planet Online Store will stock the Tubesteader Gainlord for customers worldwide. Photographs, specifications, pricing and ordering information will be available soon on our website. As always, FX Pedal Planet Online Store’s products are available via our website and via Reverb.com, but note that our prices on our website tend to be about 10 % lower than on Reverb, due to seller fees associated with that platform.
