Vahlbruch Kaluna V2 Shines on That Pedal Show

Vahlbruch Kaluna V2 Shines on That Pedal Show

We’re excited to share that in the 3 October episode of That Pedal Show, the Vahlbruch Kaluna V2 got a spotlight. It’s always great to see a pedal we stock being played and tested on a respected channel.

Vahlbruch FX is a boutique German pedal maker founded by Dr. Henning Vahlbruch. He brings a scientific mindset and a musician’s ear together to build pedals that focus on tone, reliability, and performance over hype. Their lineup includes the tube driven Kaluna II High Voltage Drive, the SPACETIME TAP v2 Delay, the OCTAVIA v2 fuzz/octave, OPTOTREM tremolo, PHI-4 phaser, QUANTUM compressor, PIPELINE reverb, and more. What sets them apart are features like the MagTraB magnetic (non-click) switching, full voltage tube operation (250 V from a 9 V supply), and smart protection circuits.

That Pedal Show is a well known YouTube series for guitar players and pedal fans. Every episode they bring in pedals, amps, and effects, compare them, discuss tone, share practical tests, and simply talk about gear in depth. Their audience is serious about sound, and they don’t just demo, they push gear through real use.

The hosts of That Pedal Show are Dan Steinhardt and Mick Taylor. Dan and Mick bring a tone first attitude, genuine curiosity and critical ears to each episode, and they’re always honest about what works and what doesn’t.

In the 3 October episode, the focus is on rotary speaker / Leslie style effects. They compare different rotary and rotary style pedals (mono, stereo, wet dry modes) from several brands, including Boss, Keeley, Neo Instruments, Strymon, and yes, the Vahlbruch Kaluna V2. The tests include how the pedals behave in different modes, latency, dry/wet balance, stereo richness, and more. (The show also notes: if you want the most faithful playback, turn off “stable volume” in your YouTube settings.)

So what is the Kaluna V2 (aka Kaluna II High Voltage Drive)? This is an overdrive pedal built around a genuine ECC83 / 12AX7 dual triode tube, run at a full 250 V, all generated internally from a standard 9 V power supply. That means you get real tube tonality and dynamics without needing a separate high-voltage supply. The V2 adds a Structure switch with three gain modes (V1/original, Hot/higher gain, Low/softer gain), plus overvoltage protection to guard against power supply mistakes. The tone stack is powerful: Drive, Volume, and three active bands (Bass, Mid, Treble ±12 dB) follow the tube stage so you can shape your sound without losing edge. Its MagTraB footswitch is silent and durable, replacing traditional mechanical switches with magnetic sensing. In bypass it maintains clean signal integrity. Put simply, it gives you responsive, dynamic overdrive that feels like pushing an amp, with flexibility to dial in modest breakup or stronger saturation.
